In 1944, the Americans formed an LRP (Long Range Patrol) group, which would serve as the precursor to Vietnam War-era LRRPs (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols). The lineage of modern-day LRRPs can be traced back to this original unit.

The 4th Infantry Division's Operation Reports from February 1968 to November 1968 provide valuable insight into the planning and execution of the operation, while Sitreps (Situation Reports) from 1967 offer a detailed account of events on the ground.

Individuals such as Frank Camper, Charles Jackson Britt, Daniel Lee Harmon, and Ronald Joseph Bonert played crucial roles in Operation Francis Marion. Unfortunately, not all of these individuals survived the war, with Britt and Harmon being killed in action in March and June 1967, respectively. Bonert was also killed in action on June 14th, 1967.

Despite the challenges and sacrifices involved, Operation Francis Marion ultimately achieved its objectives, driving enemy forces out of the Mekong Delta and paving the way for future operations. The legacy of this operation serves as a testament to the bravery and determination of American soldiers during the Vietnam War.
